Why the Bar Basso came to rule the Salone del Mobile at night
lf cocktails are your thing Bar Basso is the place to go, especially during Salone del Mobile. The owner, Maurizio Stocchetto, explains the history behind the famous watering hole.
Maurizio Stocchetto is a true original. During the Stockholm Fair in February I bumped into this rather shy, but friendly worid-famous bartender, in front of the Kartell shop. Maurizio, not his trademark white cocktail jacket but a black skl anorak and backpack, had been invited by designer / manufacturer, Thomas Asplund, for his genius hocus pocus skills at the Apslund party the night before. Call it a busman’s holiday, but we hit happy hour at a nearby bar and Stochetto - who found it a relief being at the other side of the counter - talked and talked and told me the story behind Bar Basso.
